HUByx is a finite element model of the human body simulating all the bones and organs as well as the internal fluid in between them, enabling the propagation of pressure wave inside the body.

The HUByx model is based on gathering CT scan slices of a 50th percentile man where all the visible organs have been outlined on the slices. Stacking these outlines created a volume for every organ and then organs volumes have been meshed within HyperMesh.

Several dynamic impacts have been simulated and the material laws of the body parts have been calibrated to reproduce the experimental results. Dynamic impacts vary in speed and projectile mass and geometries. For each case, a numerical curve has been compared to a validation corridor.

Another validation phase of the model has dealt with explosion tests. Merkle et al. has measured the pressure inside some organs of a torso surrogate under a specific experimental setting. This trial has been reproduced and the pressure curves have been measured inside the HUByx’s organs. The numerical model has been considered validated for such loadings.
